2008 will see the European ITS community travel to the international city and region of Geneva, Switzerland for the 7th European Congress and Exhibition on Intelligent Transport Systems. Taking place from 4 – 6 June 2008 at Palexpo, with the Opening Ceremony on the 3rd, this year’s Congress and Exhibition will follow the theme of ‘ITS for Sustainable Mobility’
The ITS Geneva 2008 Congress & Exhibition offers a unique opportunity to explore the latest achievements in ITS, ETC, eSafety and get an insight into cross-border transport systems and current ITS projects in action. Over 85 world-class suppliers will showcase their latest ITS innovations, services and technologies demonstrating how these can be exploited to optimise the use of the European transport network. Exhibition themes include; traffic and travel information, advanced vehicle control systems, traffic detection and monitoring, urban mobility, enforcement, digital mapping, public transport applications, smart cards, communication technology and more. ITS representatives from across Europe will be present including ITS Germany, ITS Norway, ITS Spain (RACC), ITS Sweden and ITS Switzerland; other exhibitors include Kapsch TrafficCom AG, Austria Tech, Efkon AG, European Commission, Satellic Traffic Management Gmbh, Q-Free ASA and Peek Traffic BV. Peek Traffic will be demonstrating the latest in vehicle to infrastructure communication with their cooperative systems. Their demonstration will be based on work form the EC-funded CVIS projects and show how traffic light controllers can exchange data with vehicles through cooperative technology. Running alongside the Exhibition, the Congress will bring together a large number of experts from the different fields of ITS to share ideas and formulate fresh approaches to the main transport issues of safety, congestion and quality of life. Invited high-level industry executives and public officials from around the world will share their opinions and rich experiences with the audience. The Opening and Closing Sessions, which are open to all congress attendees, will feature key personalities from both European authorities and Switzerland who will present their personal insight into a variety of topicial issues. Executive sessions will provide an exciting opportunity to learn about and help plan future ITS objectives from high-level industry executives and public officials from around the world. There will also be Special Interest Sessions and Technical/ Scientific Sessions where delegates can delve into topics in greater detail and explore issues in interactive tailor-made meetings. To take advantage of the event and its surroundings, exhibition visitors and congress delegates can take a number of technical tours to interesting ITS applications in Switzerland and in near-by France. These include a visit to the Mont-Blanc Tunnel in Chamonix, France following its re-opening in 2002, a chance to view the fully automated Metro m2 currently being constructed in the city of Lausanne, Switzerland and a technical tour of CERN, the famous European Organisation for Nuclear Research and origin of the World Wide Web, with its main research facilities in Meyrin near Geneva.
