Construction work begins on new £5 million Gourock station |
Improvemtens include new station building and re-design of car park to maximise commuter parking.
Network Rail has begun construction work on the site of the new £5 million Gourock station, to improve passenger facilities and allow for better integration of road, rail and ferry links.
The full scope of works across the two phases includes a new station building and train operating facility in the existing car park, re-design of Station Road and car park to maximise commuter parking and installation of new platform drainage system.
Also, installation of canopy on platforms two and three, re-design of existing concourse area, renewal of lighting, renew flooring, internal painting and wall finishes and installation of appropriate sea wall defences to the north elevation to facilitate future coastal walkway.
Between winter 2010 and December 2011, a new platform canopy will also be installed and the north wall refurbished to include glazed sections offering unobstructed sea views.
Ron McAulay, Network Rail’s director Scotland, said: "The new station is a significant investment in the future of Gourock and we are glad to now be making real progress towards giving passengers the facilities they deserve."
