Network Rail completes £40 million of improvements over Easter |
Work completed includes signalling improvements on Bournemouth Main Lines.
Network Rail have announced that £40 million of railway improvements were carried out over the Easter break.
Work completed included completing the St Cross Tunnel in Winchester to enable bigger freight trains to travel through it and that will remove up to 50,000 lorries a year from the regions road, and finishing work across London and the South East on Network Rail’s £5.5 billion Thameslink Programme.
Also, completing a £145 million project to improve the track and signalling on the Bournemouth Main Lines, and installation and testing of the overhead power lines required for a new platform at Kings Cross station.
Simon Kirby, director of infrastructure projects said: "The latest technology and new ways of working are increasingly enabling us to get more done, more efficiently."
"This is good news for passengers as it means we can keep the railway open for longer."
