Pressure for Philip Hammond to outline coalition pact in terms of transport policy. The Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government have named Philip Hammond as their new Secretary of State for Transport. Hammond has been the MP for Runnymede and Weybridge since 1997. He was raised in Essex and attended University College, Oxford to read Politics, Philosophy and Economics and has most recently held the position of Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury. Hammond strongly believes that the first responsibility of Government is to promote economic stability, sound money, and prudent public finances. Since being appointed, the Road Haulage Association and Freight Transport Association have already put pressure on Hammond to clarify what the Conservative and Liberal Democrat pact offers in terms of transport policy as well as increased and proactive recognition of the problems facing the industry.
