Up to £5000 available for businesses to help staff travel to and from work
Stoke-on-Trent City Council is offering businesses the chance to bid for up to £5000 as part of their travel plan grant scheme, to help their staff travel to and from work.
The scheme aims to support local businesses who want to get their staff using sustainable methods of transport to get to work, with the idea being to encourage employees to be able to travel to work easily without needing to travel alone in their car.
A business would work with city council officers to develop a travel plan which would help establish how staff and visitors travel to their site.
They can then put in place measures to make it easier for everyone to use alternatives to the car such as walking and car sharing.
Examples of initiatives the grants can be used for are installing cycle storage for staff and visitors, enhancements to street lighting and improving pedestrian crossings.
Councillor Adrian Knapper, cabinet member for transport and planning, said: "These grants will hopefully provide small and medium sized businesses with the opportunity to create a sustainable transport plan tailored to them."
"The onus though, is on them to come up with something that will provide their employees with alternatives to just driving into work on their own, by creating facilities and opportunities they might not be able to afford normally."
