Cable car plan for Birmingham City Centre

Cable CarBirmingham could get a city centre cable car system to move passengers between three major railway stations, under proposals to be put before transport chiefs.

The architects behind the ground-breaking Thames cable car in London have been asked to draw up outline plans for a Birmingham cable car to move commuters between city centre rail stations.

If the High Speed 2 rail system goes ahead, it would mean a huge new terminal at Curzon Street, leaving Birmingham with three major stations.

Consultants who worked on the Emirates Air Line for Transport for London, the cable car which spans the Thames between North Greenwich and the Royal Docks, are set to give a presentation to West Midlands Passenger Transport Authority Centro.

The proposed second stage of HS2, set to link Birmingham to Leeds and Manchester, may also mean there is added opportunity to gain investment for Birmingham city centre transport schemes.
